Maxwell String Quartet

Sunday 22nd March 2015 at 3pm:  the Maxwell String Quartet play Mendelssohn's Quartet in E flat major (Op. 44 No. 3) and Schubert's Quartet in G major, D. 887.

Although the Maxwell Quartet comes to Sutton House for the first time, the leader Colin Scobie is no newcomer to our concert series, having played numerous times as the violinist in the Roskell Piano Trio, as well as in the Fitzwilliam Quartet.  Formed in 2010, the Maxwell Quartet has been hailed as “one of the front-runners” in young UK ensembles (Classical Music magazine) with a reputation for delighting audiences with their "exhilarating performances".  They are the most widely performing chamber group in Scotland.  Their performance at the Purcell Room this January had glowing reviews: "Very fine performances from the Maxwell Quartet... a clear and impassioned reading... alive to the score's delicate lyricism and need for control... an interpretative authority" (The Guardian).

Our concerts often sell out so please do book in advance.  Tickets: £12; concessions (proof required) £10; people under 26, disabled people and their carers free. Reductions for multiple bookings. Tickets can be purchased by clicking

The café/bar will be open before the concert and during the interval.
