The Sutton House Music Society’s 2014-2015 season promises to be our best yet, with an exciting array of varied programmes and world-class performers, including our regular artists in residence, the Fitzwilliam Quartet and the Roskell Piano Trio,  alongside some new performers – Charles Tebbs and performers from the Stoke Newington Contemporary Music Festival, with whom we are collaborating for the first time.  Some other old friends are returning by popular request: Raphaela who sang so charismatically in Pierrot Lunaire will perform a song recital, the lively Wing-It Singers will again entertain us at Christmas, and Colin Scobie from the Roskell Piano Trio brings his dynamic Scottish Maxwell Quartet for the first time.

Several of our concerts sold out last season, so we recommend booking in advance and taking advantage of our multiple ticket purchase reductions.

We look forward to welcoming you to our forthcoming concerts.

The season starts at 7 pm Sunday 5th October 2014 with the wonderful Consortium5 Recorder Consort performing  “Then and Now: A Celebration of English Consort Music”.  Consortium5 play on a ten-piece Renaissance Consort set, with instruments ranging from the descant recorder to the six-foot-tall subbass, with different treble, tenor and bass recorders in-between.  This is far removed from the English recorder-playing most of us have heard in the past!

The concert will take place in the beautiful Tudor Great Chamber at Sutton House – the ideal atmospheric venue for such an event. The programme includes Fantasias, In Nomines and Dances by Ferrabosco, William Byrd and John Ward (which could well have been heard in the early days of Sutton House’s history) juxtaposed with contemporary works by English composers.  We regret that there is no wheelchair access to the Great Chamber.

Please go to the This Seasons page for further details of all the concerts in this season.
